Why use Utils365

  • Phrase by phrase

Many Simplified characters stand for more than one Traditional one. Looking at whole words gets them right: 头发 → 頭髮 but 发展 → 發展, 干净 → 乾淨 but 干部 → 幹部.

  • Taiwan or Hong Kong

Taiwan and Hong Kong write some characters differently, such as 裡 and 裏. Choose which one your readers expect.

  • Regional words too

Optionally change words that differ between the mainland and Taiwan: 软件 ↔ 軟體, 鼠标 ↔ 滑鼠, 出租车 ↔ 計程車.

  • Long texts and files

Convert a whole article, book chapter or subtitle file at once, and download the result.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just convert character by character?

Because many Simplified characters merged several Traditional ones. 发 is 髮 in 头发 (hair) but 發 in 发展 (develop), and 后 is 后 in 皇后 (queen) but 後 in 后来 (later). This converter uses OpenCC’s phrase dictionaries to pick the right one from the words around it.

What’s the difference between Taiwan and Hong Kong Traditional?

A few characters have different standard forms, such as 裡 in Taiwan and 裏 in Hong Kong, or 著 and 着. Choose the region your readers are in. Standard uses OpenCC’s own forms, found in older printed books.

What does Convert Taiwan words do?

It also changes words that are different in Taiwan, not just the characters: 软件 becomes 軟體, 鼠标 becomes 滑鼠 and 信息 becomes 資訊. Going the other way, Taiwan words become the ones used in mainland China.

Is the conversion always right?

It’s right for the vast majority of everyday text, but no automatic converter is perfect. Names, rare words and some ambiguous phrases may need checking, especially in text that will be printed or published.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The dictionary is downloaded once and the text is converted on your device.

Is it free?

Yes. There’s no sign-up and no limit on length.
