How to use JSON to YAML

  1. Paste your JSON

Paste JSON, or open or drop a .json file. It’s checked and converted as you type.

  2. Choose the indent

Pick 2 or 4 spaces. Keys stay in their order and numbers keep the digits you wrote.

  3. Copy or download

Copy the YAML, or download it as a .yaml file.

Why use Utils365

  • Safe for every YAML reader

Strings that a YAML reader could mistake for something else, like yes, on, 007 or 2024-01-01, are quoted, so they stay text in old and new parsers alike.

  • Nothing reordered or rounded

Keys come out in the order you wrote them, and numbers like 1.10 or long IDs keep every digit.

  • Errors you can fix

Invalid JSON shows the line and column of the mistake with a hint, like a trailing comma or a missing quote.

  • Private by design

Your JSON is converted on your device and never uploaded, so secrets in config files stay with you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a JSON array or a single value?

Yes. A top-level array becomes a YAML list, and a lone value like 42 or "hello" becomes a one-line YAML document.

Why are some strings in quotes?

YAML reads unquoted yes, no, on, off, numbers and dates as booleans, numbers or dates. Quoting them keeps them as the text they were in your JSON.

Will my key order or numbers change?

No. Keys stay in their order, even ones like "2" and "1", and numbers are written exactly as they appear in the JSON.

Can JSON have comments for the YAML?

No. Standard JSON has no comments, so the YAML has none either. Add them after converting with a # at the start of a line.

Is there a size limit?

Files up to 50 MB can be opened. Very large results are shown cut short on the page, but copy and download include all of it.
