How to use Grayscale PDF

  1. Add your PDFs

Drop one or more PDFs onto the page. A before and after preview of the first page shows how it will look.

  2. Choose how to convert

Keep text is fast and keeps text, links and form fields working. Print-ready turns every page into a gray picture for print shops. Convert all pages or just some.

  3. Download

Click Make it grayscale and save your file. Several PDFs come back together as a ZIP.

Why use Utils365

  • Cheaper printing

Gray pages print with black ink or toner only, so you don’t pay for color you don’t need.

  • Text stays text

In Keep text mode nothing is redrawn: text can still be selected and searched, links still work, and the file hardly grows.

  • Ready for print shops

Print-ready mode makes every page truly gray at 150 or 300 dpi, so printers that charge for color pages see none.

  • Private by design

Everything happens in your browser, so your PDFs are never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a color PDF to grayscale?

Add your PDF, choose Keep text or Print-ready, and click Make it grayscale. Your gray copy is ready to download in moments.

What’s the difference between Keep text and Print-ready?

Keep text lays a gray filter over every page, so text, links and form fields keep working and the file stays small. Print-ready turns each page into a gray picture, which is truly black and white but no longer has selectable text.

Which mode should I use for a print shop?

Print-ready. In Keep text mode the colors are hidden rather than removed, so a print shop that checks files may still find color and charge for it.

Can I still select and search the text?

Yes with Keep text. With Print-ready the pages become pictures; run the file through OCR PDF afterwards to make the text searchable again.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Choose Only some pages and type a range like 1-3, 7. The other pages are copied as they are.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Your files are converted in your browser and never leave your device.
