How to use Pinyin input
Type pinyin
Type pinyin without tones, run together or with spaces between words: nihao, wobuzhidao, zhongguoren. Use v for ü, as in lv for 绿.
Choose the characters
Press Space for the first word, or a number to pick another. The likeliest words and whole sentences come first; shorter words follow.
Copy your text
Keep typing, with Chinese punctuation if you like, then copy the text into a message, document or search box.
Why use Utils365
About 400,000 words
Everyday words, names, places and idioms, so most sentences come out right in one go, from wobuzhidao to 我不知道.
Shortcuts that save typing
Type just the first letters of each syllable, such as bjdx for 北京大学, or add tone numbers to narrow the choice: ma3 for 马.
Simplified or Traditional
Type in Simplified characters, or Traditional ones as used in Taiwan or Hong Kong.
Works on any device
Nothing to install and no settings to change. On a phone, the on-page keyboard types pinyin straight into the box.
Frequently asked questions
How do I type Chinese with pinyin?
Type the pinyin of a word or sentence without tones, such as nihao, then press Space to take the first suggestion or a number key to pick another. Keep going to write more.
How do I type ü?
Type v instead: lv gives 绿 and nvren gives 女人.
What if the syllables could be split two ways?
Type an apostrophe between them: xi'an gives 西安, where xian would give 先 or 现. The tool also tries both ways for n and g, so fangan offers both 方案 and 反感.
Can I type just the first letters?
Yes. Type the first letter of each syllable, such as zgr for 中国人 or bjdx for 北京大学, and pick from the words that match.
Can it type Traditional Chinese?
Yes. Choose Traditional for Taiwan or Hong Kong, and the words you pick are written in Traditional characters.
Does it learn the words I use?
If you leave Remember my words on, words you pick come up first next time. They're saved in your browser only, and you can forget them at any time.
Is it free?
Yes. There’s no sign-up, no limit and nothing to install.
