Why use Utils365

  • Sounds like your name

Characters are matched to the syllables of your name, the way Chinese speakers choose names for friends from abroad: Michael Smith might become 史明杰.

  • Only good meanings

Every character comes from a hand-picked list of popular name characters with positive meanings, so there are no odd or unlucky choices.

  • A real Chinese surname

Your surname becomes a common Chinese one that sounds like it, such as 史 for Smith or 李 for Lee, placed first as in Chinese.

  • Hear it and write it

Each name is read syllable by syllable by a native speaker, with tone marks, and links to its stroke order.

Frequently asked questions

How is my Chinese name chosen?

Your surname is matched to a common Chinese surname that sounds like it. For your given name, characters are picked whose sounds echo the syllables of your first name and whose meanings fit the qualities you chose, and the tones are checked so the name flows.

Is this a real Chinese name?

Yes. It follows the pattern Chinese names use: a one-character surname from the most common Chinese surnames, then a one- or two-character given name with good meanings. It isn't a transliteration like 迈克尔 for Michael, which sounds foreign; that's shown too, for comparison.

Why does my surname come first?

In Chinese the surname comes before the given name, so Michael Smith as 史明杰 is Shǐ Míngjié: Shǐ is the surname.

Can I get a name for a man, a woman or either?

Yes. Choose who the name is for, and only characters that suit it are used. Either gives names used for men and women alike.

What does each character mean?

Each name lists what its characters mean and which part of your name they echo, so you can choose one you like and explain it to others.

Can I use it for a tattoo?

You can, but ask a native speaker to check it first. The names use good, common characters, but a person can tell you how a name feels in context and whether it suits you.

Is it free?

Yes. There’s no sign-up, no limit and nothing to install.
