Why use Utils365

  • The real total discount

20%, 10% and 5% come to 31.6% off, not 35%. The calculator shows the true figure and every step on the way.

  • Work backwards to a list price

Enter your cost and the margin to keep, and get the lowest list price that still leaves it after every discount.

  • Rounded like a till

Each step is rounded to the cent, so the final price matches what customers will see at checkout.

  • Private and free

Everything is worked out in your browser. Your prices aren’t sent anywhere, and there’s no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

How do stacked discounts work?

Each discount is taken from the price the one before it left. 20% off 100 is 80; an extra 10% off 80 is 72; another 5% off 72 is 68.40. The customer saves 31.60, so the total discount is 31.6%, not 35%.

How do I calculate a double discount?

Enter two discounts and leave the third empty. Multiply what each leaves: 20% and then 10% leave 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72 of the price, which is 28% off in total.

Does the order of discounts matter?

Not for percentages: 20% then 10% gives the same final price as 10% then 20%. The order only changes the result when a fixed amount off is mixed in, or when each step is rounded to the cent.

What list price keeps my margin after discounts?

Choose The list price to set, enter your cost and the margin to keep, then the discounts. The calculator finds the lowest list price whose final price still leaves that margin on your cost.

What is the margin here?

Profit as a share of the final price the customer pays. A product costing 30 sold for 50 has a 40% margin. That’s different from markup, which is profit as a share of cost, 67% in this example.

Is this the same as the discount calculator?

The discount calculator handles one discount and an optional extra one, plus sales tax, for shoppers. This one stacks three and works back from your margin, for setting prices.
